Interestingly, customers are complaining left right and centre about their ISP not fixing or repairing a faulty internet and/or phone service. Let’s give a few case examples to show how this is possible:

If your Electricity was not working…

Would you call the Electricity company, or an Electrician? The first thing you would do is check the fuse box and circuit breakers, and if your lights or a power outlet wasn’t working, you’d accept that you would have to pay an Electrician to repair the problem. Not the electricity company… they just need to make sure they are supplying electricity to you, at the fuse box.

If your Toilet won’t flush or is clogged…

Would you call your local Water Board (e.g: Sydney Water, Melbourne Water), or a Plumber? The first thing you would do is grab the old rubber plunger and try and clear that blockage, and if you couldn’t fix it, you’d accept that you would have to pay a Plumber to repair the problem. Not the Water Board… they just need to make sure they are supplying water to and taking sewage from your premises, not ON your premises.

…so then if your Internet or Phone stops working…

That’s right, the same applies to your Phone and Internet Services. The ISP only supplies the service to your premises (which means they are only liable for repairs to the carrier network, outside of your premises and at the exchange). If you have any faulty equipment or cabling, then just like our examples above, you will have to get that repaired at your own cost.
